What I Tried That Did Work

How to burn BELLY fat when intermittent fasting!

I didn’t want to give up CrossFit because I loved the strength and confidence I had gained, but it was clear that I needed to change something. In February 2017, I came across videos about intermittent fasting . I learned about all the benefits of IF â disease prevention, improved digestion and decreased bloating, more mental clarity, and weight loss. Intermittent fasting isn’t a diet; it’s a lifestyle. You choose a period of time during the day to eat and a period of time to not eat . I chose the 16:8 plan, where you fast for 16 hours, and eat for eight â it made the most sense for my schedule.

I was shocked that just by skipping breakfast and eating from noon until 8 p.m., after just one month, I looked slimmer. I kept going. After three months, I looked even leaner, and by month six of IF, I’ll never forget looking in the mirror and seeing my body change even more. This was something I was able to maintain because by one year of intermittent fasting, I was able to keep the belly fat off.

Intermittent fasting is trendy it helps you lose weight and has many health benefits. A new study now suggests that the method cannot help against the dangerous visceral belly fat of all things.

At least since Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen has lost 10 kilos Intermittent fasting is an unbroken trend in weight loss. And thats no wonder: the method offers several possible variations that can be easily integrated into everyday life. For example, you can eat eight hours with the 16: 8 method and then fast for 16 hours, or with the 5: 2 diet you can completely avoid eating two days a week. You dont have to pay attention to the size of the meals, nor do you have to completely refrain from each snack.

What I Tried That Didn’t Work

In college, I started running and doing a ton of yoga. I cleaned up my junk food vegan diet and ended up losing the weight, but still had belly fat. I got married, had two children, gained and lost about 45 to 50 pounds each time, and by then, my belly was still “squishy” .

By 2016, I was about to turn 40 and was done having kids. I was ready to go all in and pursue my goal of losing my belly fat. I wanted to see what would happen if I put in 110 percent effort with exercise and diet, so in July 2016, I decided to give CrossFit a try. After eight months, I actually gained weight. Some of it was muscle, which I was so psyched about, but some of it was body fat because CrossFit made me so hungry that I just wanted to eat all day.

Intermittent fasting is one of the few diets that has strong evidence behind its ability to help you lose weight sustainably. But a new study suggests diets can affect fat loss differently.

Dietitians are fond of intermittent fasting and its quickly become one of the most popular ways to shed the kgs in a sustainable way.

But a new suggests it may not be so good if youre planning on tackling belly fat, as researchers discovered the visceral fat that lives within your abdominal cavity to protect various organs goes into preservation mode, actually making it resistant to weight loss.

This was unexpected, lead author Dr Mark Larance, of the Charles Perkins Centre told The Age.

Fasting works by kickstarting a process called lipolysis, where fatty acids are released into the body to provide energy. But not all fat is equal.

Visceral fat, at high levels, can lead to diabetes and heart disease.

Subcutaneous fat, on the other hand, is located under the skin all over our bodies and its loss is most notable when someone begins to lose weight.

Weve opened up a whole bag of new things we need to follow up on, Dr. Larance continued.

The Metabolic Switchover To Lose Belly Fat When Intermittent Fasting

I am going to explain quickly how intermittent fasting works to reduce belly fat and we will go right it with some tips that will help you make the most of fasting to eliminate belly fat.

Fasting Lowers Insulin

Insulin is the main fat storage hormone. Your body produces insulin every time you eat and thats why fasting helps reduce insulin levels. Moreover, you will notice, the more you eat, the more you want to eat. As your body produces more and more insulin when you are constantly eating, your cells can become desensitized to the presence of insulin. Thats what we call insulin resistance. It will make you crave food even when you are not hungry as you store more fat.

Fasting Increases Human Growth Hormone

Fasting increases human growth hormone and a decrease in HGH is linked with obesity. HGH seems to regulate fat deposition in adipose tissue. All this means is that it regulates fat storage and how your cells receive fatty acids .

Why You Dont Need A Detox Diet

It sounds logical that fasting could cleanse your body of harmful substances that could cause a host of ailments like obesity, fatigue, and headaches. But there is no scientific evidence that you need to fast to “cleanse” your body or remove toxins.

Your body – specifically, the kidneys, liver, lungs, colon, and skin — is perfectly capable of removing toxins itself.

Fasting itself has been around as long as humans have been around. Hippocrates and Plato were fans of fasting, and most major religions have rituals that involve the practice. However, using fasting to lose weight or other health benefits is relatively new and has attracted more modern philosophers.

There are many ways to go about fasting; most of them fall under one of the three methods:

  • In alternate day fasting every other day, you eat a small 500 calorie meal.
  • In the 5:2 diet you usually eat for five days and then eat a 500 calorie meal on your two fasting days.
  • In the time-restricted diet you typically eat as you would, but you cram it into a 6-8 hour window of time.

What Happens To The Metabolism

When you eat the body spends a few hours processing food, burning what it can from what you just consumed.

The natural sugars in any meal that arent immediately needed for energy are stored in the liver as glycogen. When maximum glycogen storage has been achieved, the body then stores this energy as fat. Glycogen stores are the first fuel source the body will turn to for energy. When glycogen is depleted the body will then turn to the energy stored in fat cells.

When you are in a fasting state your body doesnt have a recently consumed meal that it can burn as energy. Instead it uses your stored fat as its primary energy source.

In general it takes between 6 to 8 hours for the body to burn through its glycogen supply.

How Long Should I Wait To See The Results

Top 3 Approaches To Intermittent Fasting

1. The 16:8 Plan

The 16:8 intermittent fasting plan is by far the most popular eating method because it is considered to be the easiest or most doable one of them all. The 16:8 plan involves an 8-hour eating window and a 16-hour fasting period.

Generally, when women decide to fast for 16 hours, they eat breakfast later or skip it altogether. For example, if you choose the 16:8 method, your eating window could be from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., leaving you with a 16-hour fasting window and an 8-hour eating window. Naturally, your sleeping hours also count as fasting hours.;

If you want to get started with the 16:8 method, try a step-by-step approach. Before starting the 16:8 style, try 10 hours of fasting a few days per week during the first week. Then, over the course of 3 to 4 weeks, gradually increase the amount of time you are able to fast. After a few weeks, you should be able to maintain 16 hours of fasting and 8 hours of eating a few days per week.

2. The Eat-Stop-Eat Plan

Unlike the 16:8 method, this plan involves fasting for 24 hours one or two times per week. For example, if you eat dinner at 8 p.m., you wouldnt eat any food until 8 p.m. the next day. This way of eating can be a little bit more challenging, but you only have to do it one or two times per week at most to get all of the benefits, so its not a diet you need to adhere to daily.

What Is Intermittent Fasting

A popular health and fitness trend, Intermittent fasting is considered an effective way to lose weight and improve health. Numerous studies have supported that it can have beneficial effects on the body and mind and even help increase life expectancy. Unlike other trending diets, intermittent fasting doesn’t specify which foods you should eat but rather when you should eat them. Therefore, it is more accurately described as an eating pattern and not a diet.

Intermittent fasting can be done in several different ways all of which involve splitting the day or week into eating and fasting periods. Common intermittent fasting methods include 16/8 ; eat-stop-eat and 5:2 method The 16/8 method is the most popular one as it simple, sustainable and easy to stick to.

The Question Is How Long Does It Take To Lose Belly Fat

Your results depend on where you are at, before you start doing intermittent fasting.Let us say that youve already got a good baseline; you are already eating healthy food. What prevents many people from losing weight is eating seemingly healthy food that is not healthy and prevents them from losing weight. So, maybe you need some direction on what you should be eating and how much of it is to be fat-adapted. These things will trigger your fat-burning mechanism and turn you into an unstoppable fat-burning machine.

On the other hand, if you are entirely new to this, you may be following a standard diet consisting of bread, pasta, chips, cookies, candy, and cereal. You may also be snacking multiple times in a day. Then there is going to be an adaptation period of two to eight weeks. Here you might feel crummy first when you start fasting. This is perfectly normal as your body thinks it is going through carb withdrawals. However, we can shorten this period to just 21 days by doing a complete reset. Here we need to do a thorough purge of your pantry and start stocking in the right food.

So, do the following to turn into a fat-burning machine in just 21 days:

  • Put yourself in the best position to succeed.
  • Start making supportive lifestyle choices that upregulate your fat-burning metabolism. These changes can be proper sleep hygiene, managing stress levels, incorporating movement throughout the day, and doing appropriate workouts that promote fat burning.

Intermittent Fasting And Belly Fat

How to Lose Stubborn Belly Fat with Intermittent Fasting

Belly fat is definitely a concern for many people and is one of the main reasons they experiment with intermittent fasting. Scientific evidence suggests that those who fast end up losing weight as a result of the daily caloric restrictions.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to spot reduce fat in any area of the body, and the belly is no exception. In fact, belly fat tends to primarily consist of alpha-receptor fat cells, which is what makes it so difficult to lose.

For those who may not know, our bodies have both alpha and beta receptor fat cells .

As you may already know, insulin is what allows sugar to enter our cells and be stored as fat . Intermittent fasting will decrease our insulin levels, which will force our bodies to burn fat as fuel if we keep our bodies in a fasted state long enough . Therefore, over time, you will be able to lose belly fat.
