Why You May Not See Results
Although there is research supporting the effectiveness of intermittent fasting, there are many reasons you may not see results. It may sound counter-intuitive, but you may not be eating enough calories during your fasting window. If you severely restrict calories, it can backfire. Sudden under-consumption can lead to metabolic adaptation, a process where your body becomes more efficient at using energy and storing fat which means youll burn less calories. The goal is not to count calories and cut them, its to eat minimally processed, nutritious foods during your eating window until you are full.
If you eat ultra-processed, energy-dense foods during your meals, that could be another reason why youre not getting the results you desire. Fasting can help you burn fat, but it doesnt mean that its magic! Remember to fill your plate with lean proteins, complex carbs, and healthy fats.
Finally, make sure you drink plenty of water during your fasting window. Hydration helps you feel full and satiated, and its easy to mistake thirst for hunger. If youre not hydrated when you approach your eating window, you may be prone to choose and eat ultra-processed foods.
Rave Reviews For Dofasting Intermittent Fasting App
We scoured the Internet to find out what people were saying about the DoFasting Intermittent Fasting app. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive, with many people crediting DoFasting and intermittent fasting with long-lasting weight loss results.
“I had been trying for months to shed the last few pounds, and nothing had worked. I got tired of the same diet plans with boring meals and complicated workouts. The DoFasting app made weight loss easy.”
“After the birth of my last baby, I struggled to lose weight. Developing a healthy eating schedule and exercise routine was challenging with the demands of caring for the baby. DoFasting made everything simple, so all I have to do is log in to the app and follow the directions.”
“Last year I got weight loss surgery, which helped me to lose 90 pounds. The last 30 pounds, however, were not so easy to lose. I used the DoFasting program for guidance on what and when to eat. I realized that I was not getting enough protein and this was hampering my weight loss efforts. The custom recipes, reminders to drink water and easy exercises helped me get back on track and start losing weight again.”

What To Expect On A 5
For National Fasting February in 2019, a group of LifeOmic employees voluntarily did a 90 to 120 hours of modified water fasting for science. For more than a year we had been researching and reading scientific literature reviews on the mechanisms of prolonged water fasting and its potential benefits for aging and longevity. But we wanted to experience a prolonged fast ourselves, measure its outcomes, and be able to better relate to our LIFE Fasting Tracker users. More recently, our CEO Dr. Don Brown, embarked on a 5-day modified fast. We describe what we experienced below.
For our company 120-hour modified water fast, we used the Prolon fasting-mimicking diet developed by Dr. Valter Longo at the University of Southern California. Prolon is a plant-based low calorie, low protein and low carbohydrate diet that puts the body in a similar metabolic state as does water fasting. It mimics water fasting by restricting calories , elevating ketone levels in the blood and lowering levels of glucose, insulin, insulin-like growth factor 1 and IGF-binding protein. Our CEO created his own fasting-mimicking diet. He put a couple of cups of mixed greens in a bowl and sprinkled on a tablespoon of olive oil, some salt, and a dozen almonds. This single, 250-calorie meal was all he ate everyday for 5 days.
Fasting App Review Criteria
Some of these apps I personally use or have tried out. For the others, I have compiled reviews from my health-minded IF friends, and other internet research.
For each review, I looked at:
- Features of the Free Version
- Premium Features
- User Reviews
- Ease of Use
After sorting and scrolling through scads of these apps for both iPhone and Android, Ive narrowed down the best ones to a short list of the eight top fasting apps.
I have to report that they all do pretty much the same thing.
Pretty much all the apps provide similar reminders, tracking, and notifications. Most allow you to store some fasting history, and some you can sync to your Apple Watch if you have one.
Theres honestly not much difference between the different apps for the free plans, so its really up to you to pick the app that has the best look and feel for you.
If you want to pay for the premium version, you can choose from personal coaching, more fasting plans, the ability to store more data and more.
Most are available on both platforms, and my number 8 choice is a web app you can download to use on your computer.
So lets get started!

The Best App For Special Dietary Needs
Lifesum is one of the better diet and calorie counting apps I’ve used, and the best for anyone with specific dietary needs. An attractive and data-forward interface makes the app relevant every time you open it. The diet plans range from fasting schedules to high-protein intake, and you can customize so much about them. The price for Premium is more than reasonable, too.
You don’t get any human interaction with Lifesum, nor daily readings and quizzes to help you better understand your relationship to food. Anyone on a long-term weight loss journey may want those elements in their app.
If those things don’t matter and you just need a little help sticking to a calorie budget and diet of your own choosing, then Lifesum is definitely worth a download. MyFitnessPal is the PCMag Editors’ Choice for free calorie counting apps because its food database is a little larger, but you’ll get just as much value from Lifesum for everything else in the app.
I Deleted It Pretty Quickly
ByIan J.,King County, WA, Verified Reviewer
This was really a very rudimentary and useless application. I deleted it pretty quickly. But unfortunately, purchasing the application also signed me up for an AUTOMATICALLY RECURRING subscription for some dubious diet products. For me, this is costing $66 every year.
This is known as the Kilo Grupe scam in PayPal community.

Who Uses Intermittent Fasting
Intermittent fasting is not a new concept. In fact, sleeping for several hours each night, then eating breakfast is the most common form of this technique.
Intermittent fasting is simply the practice of voluntarily going without food in order to force the body to use stored fat for energy. The human body is made for short periods of fasting, and intermittent fasting is one of the safest ways to boost the metabolism and kick start weight loss.
“Fasting gives me singularly happy afternoons”
Intermittent fasting works on a simple principle. The body operates in only two states–fasting and burning. Intermittent fasting activates the body’s burn response, boosting the metabolism and helping the body burn fat for energy, even when it is at rest. Most intermittent fasting plans operate on a 16:8 principle. The person will fast for 16 hours and eat for eight hours a day.
Intermittent fasting is great for people who want to lose up to 30 pounds. It is less effective for people who have greater amounts of weight to lose. In addition, it is not recommended for people who are underweight, have been diagnosed with an eating disorder or who are pregnant or nursing. People who have blood sugar abnormalities may find intermittent fasting dangerous, as can people who are on heart medication. As with any diet or exercise regimen, it is helpful to consult your physician before starting an intermittent fasting program.

Lifesum’s Pricing Vs Other Weight Loss Apps
Lifesum costs less than many other dieting and calorie-counting apps. Bear in mind that Lifesum doesn’t have any personal coaching or community features built into it, which helps keep the price low.
MyFitnessPal, which is perhaps closest to Lifesum in what it offers, costs $9.99 per month or $49.99 per year for Premium.
Noom has a high list price, although similarly to Lifesum, the amount you pay could be significantly less. Noom’s month-to-month price is $59 plus a $20 Starter fee, but when I tested the app, my actual cost for the first six weeks ended up being only $20. The listed annual price is $199.
WeightWatchers Digital costs about $20 when you pay monthly. This program comes with an active community and online groups you can join. WeightWatchers has other program options that include one-on-one coaching and in-person meetings, which cost more. There are some hidden fees with WeightWatchers, like a $20 signup fee that’s often waived and a $40 fee if you break a long-term commitment plan more than one month before your program ends.
The MayoClinic Diet costs $59 per quarter. With the MayoClinic Diet, the only membership option is quarterlyâno month-to-month. It’s a good choice if you want detailed meal plans chosen for you, but a terrible option if you have any dietary requirements, such as if you are vegan or are allergic to many foods. There’s no community or coaching and it’s web only, too.

What Are Dofasting Supplements
DoFasting Supplements are other weight-loss options to help you reach your goals. Intermittent fasting can come with hunger pains or loss of energy at times, and these supplements are healthy options to improve your system and feel energized. They are gluten-free and non-GMO products available online through the DoFasting website.
Euphoria Mindfulness And Mental Clarity
You might find, particularly in the later half of a 5-day or other prolonged fast, that you experience moments that are often described as euphoria, a sense of being present or mindful, and mental clarity. Time may even feel like its going slower, as one of our employees and Prolon fast participants put it.
I felt like time was flowing in a more constant manner. When not fasting, I get upset about time moving too slow, or I feel like it moves too fast when I enjoy something. I wondered if there was such a thing as hunger high. I felt like my mind was behaving differently than normal, and it was an interesting experience. The main take away from the 5-day fast for me was that it helped me get rid of stress and anxiety. I felt like my mood fluctuated less than usual throughout the day. Zhenya, LifeOmic
Mental clarity and improved cognitive function have been associated with ketogenic diets or the metabolic state of ketosis brought on by fasting. Nutritional ketosis is often used as a treatment for people with epilepsy or other seizure-related disorders, because ketone bodies are an energy source for the brain that dont produce as many reactive oxygen species and inflammatory chemicals through the process of their metabolism as glucose does. Relying on ketones for energy also prompts brain cells to become more efficient, for example by producing more mitochondria inside of neurons and thus improving how much clean energy they can produce.

How To Cancel If You Dont Like It
If youre wondering, How do I cancel DoFasting? because you have decided that the service isnt right for you, you can always cancel through the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. This way should be easy enough for users who downloaded from these sources. If you signed up for the service through their website, the cancellation will be a long process.
For those unfortunate enough to have signed up for the subscription via a web browser, you will have to send an email to requesting cancellation and hope for the best. Approval of requests may happen within 24 hours, but there is no guarantee on reply time.
When canceling, users should know that their service should continue through the remainder of their last pay period. So, a user who cancels within two months of their three-month subscription will still have a month of service after cancellation.
Its a bit bizarre that the service does not allow for self-cancellation when using the browser. This setup comes off as an extra step meant to deter users from canceling. Perhaps the companys mindset isnt as malicious. Still, it is difficult to view it as anything but an intentional hurdle when there is no way for users to cancel the service themselves.
It’s A Platform To Sell Their Products Not Help With Fasting

Pros and Cons

Losing Weight Vs Losing Fat: Whats The Difference
When you watch the numbers on your scale drop, it can be exciting. But the scale doesnt reflect if youve lost fat or weight in general. You may think the goal of your health journey is to lose weight, when what you really want is to shed body fat. The reason is simple: When you lose weight, you can lose a combination of muscle, fluids, fat, and even organ size.
If you want to increase your health and add muscle so your body feels and looks toned, losing muscle and fluids likely isnt your goal. Instead, youll want to focus on fat loss, so any more than two pounds a week could undermine your goals.
According to research and Doctor Joel Seedman , when you shed upwards of five pounds per week, youll lose water weight and muscle along with your fat. Muscle and water loss can be dangerous, since it puts you at risk for dehydration, nutrient deficiencies, poorer fitness and mental performance, and puts you at risk for regaining the weight. To combat this, incorporate strength training into your workout routine. Cardio can promote fat burning, but you need resistance training to maintain your muscle mass. Also, the more muscle mass you have, the higher your metabolic rate. Basic strength training exercises, such as squats, lunges, and push-ups, can add muscle and improve your body fat composition.
These Handy Intermittent Fasting Apps Will Keep You On Track Whether Youre Fasting For The First Time Or Building A Consistent Schedule
Intermittent fasting is pretty straightforward, especially when it comes to popular diets. You simply limit the hours you can eat during the day to a specific window. Outside of this window, fast meaning, eat nothing. This simple diet can give your metabolism the kick it needs, help you lose weight and even help stabilize blood sugar levels.
Theres just one tricky aspect to this new way of eating: You need to really commit to your chosen diet and its schedule, eating only during select hours and fasting for longer. Thats why turning to intermittent fasting apps can be particularly helpful.
No matter which kind of intermittent fasting you opt for, an app can make everything easier. Thanks to the increasing popularity of intermittent fasting diets, theres now a wealth of handy mobile apps available so you can stay on track right from your smartphone or tablet. From planning meals to tracking fasts, the right app will help you master every little detail of your intermittent fasting plan.
Check out the following intermittent fasting apps, all of which will make scheduling, tracking and monitoring your progress a breeze:
