When you fast for some duration, your body goes through several changes. For example, the body adjusts hormone levels to make stored body fat more accessible while simultaneously initiating activities crucial for cellular repair.

- Growth hormone levels fluctuate. Human growth hormone levels in the blood might skyrocket. Increased levels of this hormone help with weight loss and muscle building, among other things.
Intermittent Fasting Reduces Blood Sugar

For example, eat a glucose gel or have a sugary drink followed by a small, balanced meal when your blood sugar level is back to normal.
Be careful about what you eat after fasting. Eating too many carbohydrates after fasting can cause your blood sugar levels to become too high. Choose healthy, balanced meals and snacks.
Use caution. Donât do tough workouts while youâre fasting. Hard exercise can make your blood sugar levels dip, which can lead to hypoglycemia. Ask your doctor what activities are OK to do, or just take a break.

Feeling Better With Fasting
It has been exciting realizing the gradual improvements in how Ive felt and my leaner body composition.
In truth, I didnt feel great for the first week or so of fasting. But I didnt feel worse than usual, and I could tell my body was adjusting to the new eating schedule.
I had fewer weak spells and hypoglycemic symptoms by the end of the first week so that encouraged me to continue.
After the first couple of weeks, I saw sustained improvements. Then as the months went by, I continued to feel better until I wasnt having any hypoglycemia symptoms and rarely felt hungry because I became fat-adapted , and my body composition had changed.
Eventually, the relentless cravings for sweets and the disturbing symptoms of hypoglycemia became a thing of the past.
I Limit Sugar And Other Fast
Most people know that eating lots of sugar isnt helpful for weight loss. Foods like white bread, sweets, and most processed snack foods are typically high in calories, yet void of vitamins, minerals, and filling fiber. They also raise blood sugar levels drastically and cause a crash afterwards, making them an undesirable choice for anyone with reactive hypoglycemia.
Instead of eating simple carbs, I try to stick to carbohydrates that are low on the glycemic index. The glycemic index essentially measures how quickly a food that contains carbohydrates raises your blood sugar levels. Foods that are high on the glycemic index raise your blood sugar quickly, while foods that are lower on the glycemic index raise your blood sugar slowly and gradually. Low glycemic index carbs also tend to be rich in fiber, which slows the absorption of carbohydrates to keep you fuller longer.
When I started switching out my sushi , pretzels, and granola bars for lower glycemic index foods like wild rice, quinoa, sweet potatoes, and vegetables, I found my blood sugar levels stayed steadier and I wasnt craving as many sugary snack foods. That helped me beat the cycle of blood sugar spikes and drops, and also helped me avoid empty calories to get to a healthy weight.

What To Do If You Feel Lightheaded Or Sick When Fasting
When fasting regularly, those symptoms will most likely disappear on intermittent fasting, but they can sometimes be experiences on prolonged fast.
Im not a doctor and I do not know you or if you already suffer from any condition, so first off, if you feel really unwell when fasting, having no energy, feeling headaches and strong discomfort: eat.
Fasting is not a contest, theres no need to put yourself in a terrible state only to prove a point or thinking no arm will get to you from not eating, you read it on that stupid intermittent dieter blog!
Its what I said to my friends when they want to experiment with it. There are some discomforts when fasting, some stomachache and hunger, of course, tiredness and lack of energy on some days.
But when those symptoms really rise up, just eat.
As I said earlier, adapt gradually to it. If you cut your fast short because of keto flu, simply try and fast for shorter periods of time. Even if its a few hours and it seems really stupid to do it for such a small period of time.
You need to let your body adapt to this new habit, not rush into it.

Intermittent Fasting 36 Hours
The 36 hours fast is a more intensive and extended version of the 24 hours fasting plan. To follow 36-hour intermittent fasting, you can start by eating dinner on day one, fast for the entirety of day two, and eat breakfast on day three. However, please remember that you should not do it frequently, especially if you have diabetes.

Implementing The Intermittent Fasting Study
In all, 15 participants experienced low blood sugar events, for a total of 53 such incidents. The rates of low blood sugar were no differences between the consecutive and non-consecutive groups, but the chance of having low blood sugar was doubled on fasting days than on non-fasting.
Both groups lost weight. At the study start, the group that fasted on non-consecutive days weighed, on average, 242 pounds. By the end of the 12-week study, they had lost on average of 8 pounds. Those in the consecutive fasting group weighed, on average, 239 pounds at the study start, and by the end, they had lost nearly 7 pounds on average, which isnt statistically significant meaning both groups had similar results.
The level of A1cs declined from 8.2 to 7.5 in the non-consecutive group and from 8.4 to 7.8 in the consecutive fasting days group also not significantly different.
The final answer on the worth of this approach is still up for debate, the researchers write, “Our study protocol could be adopted for the longer-term studies that will be required to assess the tolerability and sustained efficacy of an intermittent fast.¹Unfortunately, they didnt respond to our questions about how the groups differed and whether any of the participants were willing to stay with the diet long-term.
