Does Bulletproofcoffee Break Down Your Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent Fasting: Can You Have Coffee?

Many people believe that since the bulletproof coffee does not contain sugar, it will not break intermittent fasting however, if you dig into a textbook of biochemistry, you will realize this statement is false.

The basic principle of intermittent fasting is to burn fat in your adipose tissues during the fasting period.

If you drink the bulletproof coffee during fasting, your body will switch from using endogenous fatty acids to converting triglycerides in the coffee to ketone bodies, thus eliminating the whole purpose of following the intermittent fasting diet.

Salted Or Unsalted Butter

Salted or unsalted? To be or not to bethat is the question. Hahaha sorry, if you guys didnt get my Billy Madison reference. Ok moving on now

Both unsalted and salted butter are fine to use in Keto coffee and it depends on your tastes.

A lot of people do not like to use salted butter in their bullet coffee recipe because they said they can taste the salt. That being said, salted butter is my favorite. I NEVER buy unsalted butter for anything that includes when making our keto coffee recipe.

Something to keep in mind is that I have heard from many people that it can be a challenge to find Unsalted Grass-Fed Butter. If thats the case and the salt doesnt bother you, then go ahead and use salted grass-fed butter.

My favorite brand is Kerrygold Pure Irish Butter. Its grass-fed and so rich and creamy. Honestly, once you have tried it, you wont be going back to any regular store-bought brand.

TIP Buy the Kerrygold grass-fed butter at Costco when it goes on sale.

Again we see that result kind of bobbing around a little bit.

I think my Equal results were similar to the results of regular sugar.

I was in ketosis when we did the sugar test, I dropped out of ketosis and then bounced back in at the two-hour mark.

Does Coffee Break A Fast

Such a dietary pattern as fasting allows consuming low- and zero-calorie beverages in moderate amounts. Such drinks are unlikely to break your fast.

Black coffee belongs to this list. One cup of this drink has a barely detectable amount of minerals, fat and protein. Moreover, such amount of coffee contains approximately 5 calories , which is not enough to affect your metabolic rate and break your fast.

Black coffee offers some health benefits as well. For example, according to the recent research, this drink may lower your risks of type 2 diabetes, heart attack, heart stroke, liver diseases and even Parkinsons disease . Dieters also claim that black coffee helps to decrease your appetite, which makes it easier for you to follow the dietary plan and manage your fasting days. However, this theory lacks scientific backing.

Does Coffee Make Intermittent Fasting Easier

Good news – the answer is a resounding YES!!! Here are four reasons why you should NOT ditch your coffee just yet:

Caffeine boosts your metabolism.

If weight loss is your primary goal for doing intermittent fasting, then this is music to the ears. There are 3 ways that caffeine boosts your metabolism:

  • Caffeine has substances that boost metabolism, namely theophylline, theobromine, and chlorogenic acid, which help our body accelerate the breaking down of sugars and absorb fewer carbohydrates.
  • Caffeine helps burn fats because it increases energy levels and makes your body work hard. You can then say goodbye to extra calories as they burn.
  • Caffeine increases the metabolic rate.
  • We talked about this at length in the article How does caffeine affect your mood.

It keeps you alert and attentive, eases and reduces the risk of depression, helps you get along with people better, and basically just turn you into a walking ball of sunshine.

Its a way to treat yourself.

    What Is Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent Fasting & Coffee: Can You Drink Coffee While ...

Intermittent Fasting is one of the most popular weight loss trends to date. Unlike a typical diet, intermittent fasting is about when you eat, instead of what you eat. This trend requires a set eating schedule and consistent fasting times to be truly effective.

An eating pattern rather than a conventional diet, the belief is that periods of fasting are more normal than eating 3 square meals per day because ancient hunter-gatherers would go through regular periods of scarcity due to an inability to find food.

There are a variety of fasting schedules and plans that have been designed to accelerate weight loss through metabolic switching.

Essentially, when your body is fasting, it uses stored body fat for energy. Levels of Human Growth Hormone increase up to 5 times their regular amount, which induces fat loss and muscle gain, and insulin levels drop to make stored fat more immediately accessible.

Hormone changes may also cause your metabolic rate to increase, leading to more calories burned.

Your cells also begin repair processes like autophagy, in which your cells digest old, unusable cellular protein build-up.

Prior to beginning an intermittent fasting schedule, approval should be given by your primary care provider. They can answer any questions you may have regarding intermittent fasting and how it will affect your personal physical health and mental wellness.

Testing Sweeteners In Coffee And Intermittent Fasting: #2 Sweetnlow

    Keith:

    Hypothesis number two:

    HYPOTHESIS #2: SWEETN LOW

Coffee with SweetNLow will not knock us out of ketosis or raise our blood glucose.

    Becky:

SweetNLows first ingredient, interestingly enough, is dextrose.

Dextrose is one of those hidden names for sugar.

Next on the ingredient list, we have saccharin, which is the artificial sweetener. Saccharin has kind of a checkered past.

    Is Saccharin Safe To Consume?

Tab soda was the first thing that I remember it from. That was a real early American diet soda, and it had a terrible after taste. Then it kind of got on the bad list, and now it is kind of back on the good list.

    Keith:

It was unfairly labeled because the studies they did were on grossly overdosed rats, and they found out it did not translate to humans later on.

So I think it is thought of as basically safe at this point.

    Becky:

    Still definitely not health food.

So we put a packet and a half of SweetNLow in our coffee because, according to their official website, it is the equivalent of a tablespoon of sugar.

    What were our results?

Testing The Effects Of Cream In Coffee When Fasting

Can I have Flavored Coffee While Intermittent Fasting?

On my second YouTube channel that I run with my husband, Keith, we perform a lot of small-scale tests to determine how different foods affect our intermittent fast.

On testing days, we get up in the morning, take our baseline blood glucose and ketone readings, consume something, and then retest our blood at 30, 60, and 120 minutes.

What wed like to see is that a food or drink does not cause a spike in glucose or a drop in ketones, because that may indicate a rise in insulin. Insulin is the fat-storing hormone, so if it goes up, fat is being stored, not released and burned.

When we tested heavy cream, the result was favorable meaning it caused a slight drop in glucose and a slight rise in ketones.

From that, we concluded that cream in your coffee would not knock your body out of fat-burning mode, and therefore it was okay to consume during your intermittent fast!

Now admittedly, these home experiments with just two subjects are far from a rigorous scientific study. There are several factors to consider when determining if youd like to add cream to your coffee.

Can Coffee Boost The Effects Of Intermittent Fasting

The good news is that drinking coffee can actually help you with your fast! One study found that coffee promotes good health by stimulating autophagy, which is the bodys process of clearing damaged cells and regenerating healthy new cells.

If you use intermittent fasting as a method of weight loss, coffee might also help boost the effects of the fasting. A study demonstrated that weight, BMI, and body fat reduction might be promoted by caffeine intake.

Additionally, studies have found a correlation that supports a cause and effect between habitual coffee consumption and a lower risk of type 2 diabetes. So, if intermittent fasting is done with the goal of preventing diabetes, coffee supports that goal.

Now that you know you can drink coffee while fasting and that it supports your fast, you may wonder about how typical coffee add-ins factor into your fast.
