Lord, Hanging as a vine upon the Wood,O Christ our Savior,You have made the ends of the earthto drink from the wine of resolve.Therefore do I cry aloud:I am darkened always by the vicious drunkenness of sin Give me to drink from the sweet wine of true faith,and grant me now the strength, O Savior,to fast from sensual pleasures,for Your are good and love mankind. Fasting Is An Express Of Humility
15. Psalm 35:13-14 Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting. When my prayers returned to me unanswered, I went about mourning as though for my friend or brother. I bowed my head in grief as though weeping for my mother.
16. 1 Kings 21:25-27 When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and fasted. He lay in sackcloth and went around meekly.
Prayer For Fasting And Praying
Father,
As I enter into this period of fasting, I invite you in. Lord, come into my heart, come into my mind, renew me in new ways. You are my Lord, King and Savior. You are perfect, you are amazing and good. Lord, I am none of those things. I confess that I am sinful, that I am ugly in my sin and without you, I am lost. Forgive me, Lord, for the ways I have not put you first. Forgive me for not letting you reign over me.
Lord, this is what this time of fasting is all about , to take me off of the throne of my own life and to put you on the throne where you belong. I know I will be hungry for food, I pray as I am hungry that you would satisfy me with your Word. I know I will get tired, I pray as I am tired that you will strengthen me and Sustain me in your grace, Father. For every hunger pang I experience, directs my gaze not down to my belly but up towards you. For I know that I cannot live on bread alone, but every Word from you.
Help me Father, that I may enter this time of fasting and prayer with a heart of joy and a mouth that praises your goodness. Give me all the advantages of this spiritual discipline and keep me humble. Thank you Lord for your great, unending, all consuming love for me. I love you, Father. Amen.

Things Things Only Come Through Fasting And Praying
One time, a man brought his son to Jesus for healing. Jesus disciples could not cast out the spirit that was tormenting the boy and causing him to be epileptic. When the disciples inquired from Jesus as to why they could not cast out the demon, Jesus told them that kind could only come out through prayer and fasting . Jesus also told them that they were full of unbelief.
In the above story, we can conclude that prayer and fasting would have helped the disciples to have the kind of faith needed to cast out the evil spirit. Prayer and fasting help our spirits become strong and full of faith so we can see others delivered from the oppression of the devil. Sometimes we have to pray and fast to see the deliverance and breakthrough we need from God.

A 40 Day Complete Biblical Fast
Our examples of a 40 day complete fast are Jesus and Moses who took things to the extreme by having no food or water for 40 days.
- So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights he did not eat bread or drink water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.
- And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry.
Please note that these are extreme examples of fasting and prayer and you should never consider this until after consulting a doctor.
When You Sense God Is Preparing You For Something New Pray And Fast
God will give you a greater desire to pray and fast when He is about to move in bigger ways in your life.
We need a special grace from God to do so. The Bible tells us that God desires obedience from us, not sacrifice. He isnt looking for us to be radical or intense, but obedient and faithful to what He is stirring in us to do.
While fasting seems to be a forgotten discipline for many believers, I have recently seen a growing hunger and desire for it, including in my own life. I believe God is giving His people an increased desire to fast because He is about to move in greater ways in our lives, churches, and world.

What Does Fasting Do Spiritually
Before we finish together I want to point out something in most of these fasting and prayer scriptures. Look at the examples in Daniel and Esther specifically?
Those people were in a desperate spiritual state as well as a desperate physical state. Their lives were in danger. Life was hard in a way we will never understand in the 21st Century Western Church.
When they needed to draw near to God, when they needed answers, when they needed spiritual breakthrough they took prayer to the next level and fasted.
Those are some amazing fasting scriptures for breakthrough! If God showed up for them He can show up for you. Write those verses out, pray over them, remind God of His promises, and be strengthened in your faith today!
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
What fasting does spiritually is draw your heart in humility nearer to the heart of God.
And when you are humble and near the Father, you can hear His voice answer prayers. You can feel his breath move, you can see the future He has for you in hope and joy.
The reward of fasting in the Bible is always a closer walk with God, healing either spiritually or physically and peace even when life is hard.
Fasting and Prayer can change both your heart and a nations heart
Fasting does so much for us spiritually but a look at this example of fasting in Nehemiah shows us that it is also powerful enough to heal and unite a nations heart to God.

God Gave His Word
