Expect boredom on your fasts. Even when I just fast for a day I get bored at some point. You have so much more time and more mental energy on a fast. You dont have to decide what to eat. You dont have to cook it. You will be rich in time and thoughts.

Those thoughts will try to sabotage you. Expect to get restless and bored. Sit with it.

Heres ten ways to deal with boredom on a fast:

  • Meditate
  • Journal This helps give you something to do plus you just might work out a few long, standing issues. Ive used isolated fasts to deal with big turning points in my life in the past. Its a great time to reflect.
  • Go for a long walk or easy hike
  • Stay busy at work
  • Go see an independent film, something thought provoking. Bring a friend and talk about it afterwards.
  • Go to a cafe for a coffee
  • Read a book
  • Watch your favorite show Dont try and be perfect. Youre goal is to complete the fast. Sometimes distraction is needed.
  • Focus On Certain Healthy Foods

    How I Maintained My Weight Loss After a Water Fast!

    There are several foods that you may wish to include in your diet to combat water retention.

    Potassium-rich foods are often recommended, as potassium can help balance sodium levels and increase urine production, helping you drop excess water .

    Dark green leafy vegetables, beans, bananas, avocados, tomatoes and yogurt or other dairy products are all healthy and potassium-rich.

    Magnesium supplements or magnesium-rich foods are also recommended. These include dark chocolate, dark green leafy vegetables, nuts and whole grains.

    The following foods and herbs are often recommended by alternative practitioners to drop water weight. Some clinical evidence supporting their use:

    Is Water Fasting A Healthy Choice For You

    The 2020-2025 USDA Dietary Guidelines offer recommendations and tips for a balanced diet, which should include a variety of vegetables, fruits, grains, lean meats, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, dairy, and healthy oils.

    The water fast excludes all of these healthy food groups with the exception of water, so it does not adhere to USDA guidelines and is therefore not considered a healthy way to lose weight. As a short-term diet, however, you may see some weight loss during a water fast, but only for a few days.     How To Do A 3

    A 3-day water fast means that for 3 days, you will be consuming only water no food and no other drinks. Decide when you are going to start and end your fast. You should plan it out so that you have at least 72 hours between your last and first bite of food.

    Leading up to the fast, try not to overindulge. I ate ice cream at 9 pm the night before my fast. Bad idea. This just delays the inevitable. The goal is ketosis, which only occurs once your body depletes its glycogen stores. The more you eat and later you eat, the longer it will take to get to your goal.

    I suggest having a small, balanced dinner in the early evening and beginning your fast after.

    During the 3 days that you are fasting, make sure to clear your schedule as much as possible so you have time to rest, and you dont have to worry about work, plans with friends, or anything else. I was surprised to find that I had bursts of energy where I was able to work, but there were moments when I felt weak and tired and needed to lay down.

    Remember to speak with your doctor if you have had any health issues that may preclude you from trying a 3-day water fast.
